What is an Eco-Art Biennale?
The Eco-Art Biennale, organized by the EcoArt Association of Pont-Aven and curated byJohn K. Melvin, is an international exhibition showcasing art inspired by our current environmental challenges. Artists from around the world are invited to create works that spark dialogue on biodiversity, pollution, and solutions to the climate crisis.
What is Eco-Art?
Eco-Art, short for Ecological Art, is a contemporary art practice rooted in Land Art, Conceptual Art, and Site-Specific Art. Unlike its predecessors, Eco-Art emphasizes the intersection of art, ecology, and human impact, addressing material sources, site ecology, and our connection to nature.
Eco-Art is built on the undeniable truth: life depends on a healthy environment.
Without it, there is no culture, politics, or life itself. Through action and awareness, Eco-Art embodies a commitment to environmental stewardship.
Why Pont-Aven?
Pont-Aven, renowned for its artistic heritage, provides a unique setting to engage both the art world and the public. Future announcements will unveil the deeper story behind this location.
How Do Artists Apply?
Artists must submit proposals detailing:
•Environmental impact: Materials sourcing, lifecycle, and ecological responsibility.
•Concept and audience: How the work engages viewers and embodies Eco-Art principles.
•Project lifecycle: Installation, sustainability, and end-of-life plan (e.g., reuse or recycling).
Proposals are evaluated by both an artistic jury and a scientific advisory board, ensuring integrity and ecological mindfulness. Selected artists will have at least five years of relevant professional experience.
