Light & Shadow, 2004-2005

Beginning with my Decisions installation immediately following graduation from MassArt, I turned my studio at the Distillery Building into a light & shadow laboratory of sorts.  I still painted, but was really beginning to move deeply into playing with materials and manipulating perspective, light, and shadow.  The following works were made between 2004 and 2005, and are various constructions of acrylic Plexiglas, tape, paper, color, light, and shadow.  Please take note, that what you are looking at in these images is a composition composed of real and artificial light and shadow, meaning, that you may think you are looking at shadow when in fact its a painted trace, and other times, you’re looking at real shadow.

These works were incredibly fun to make, and little did I know that they would form the basis for work I would do when I accepted a fellowship in Pont-Aven in 2005.
